The success of this website will come from the stories and photos we receive from current and former residents of the Olde Wythe neighborhood and those that live/lived nearby. Please add your own memories and photos as your stories are what makes our history. Here at the Olde Wythe History Website our goal is to bring history to life. We cannot do it without your contributions.
Sharing Photos With Captions To Use In A Photo Gallery
We will post all photos with captions that we receive on the site as long as they relate to the Wythe area and do not duplicate a photo already posted by someone else.
If you’ve looked through our pages you will see of how captions add to the stories depicted in the photographs. Please send photographs with captions as E-mail attachments. Send your photo as a JPEG try to keep photo files under 300kb in size. Please keep the text of your caption between 100-150 words. Once your caption and photo has been submitted, amendments to it cannot be made. Please ensure that you are entirely happy with your entry before you submit it. If your caption does not our proof reader pass for spelling and grammar and or our profanity filters, your photo and caption will not be posted. Include your full name, mailing address and telephone number for our records. All your personal information is kept strictly confidential.
f you have non-digital photos, but have no way to scan them, we can do it for you. Send us the photos with a typed caption for each photo, along with a self- addressed, stamped return envelope to the address at the bottom of the page.
Sharing Stories And Memories
Your written stories and memories should be submitted as a MS Word file that has been spellchecked and carefully proofread. We do not want to limit the length of your story/ memories, but please try to keep it less than 2000 words. Include your full name, mailing address and telephone number for our records. All your personal information is kept strictly confidential.
We will post all stories and memories that we receive on the site for people to read and enjoy as long as they relate to the Wythe area.
Please ensure that you are entirely happy with your entry before you submit it. The best way to send your story or memory is by an E-mail attachment. Be sure you’ve titled the story/memories. If for some reason, this doesn’t work when sent as an attachment, then send it as plain text. This removes all formatting and allows fairly easy reformatting in HTML. Be sure that you have clear divisions between paragraphs—two lines of space is best. If you can’t figure out how to send your text files by e-mail, just send it to us on a CD. If you have a story to share and no way to email it or save it to a CD you can just send a typed version via U.S. mail to the address listed on the bottom of the page.
Sharing video clips and home movies
Old family movies can make a great addition to the web site. If you have 8 mm movies you will need to transfer them to disk. Send them to us using the address at the bottom of the page or if you want to can down load them from your disk to You Tube and send us the link. To help tell the stories of your movie, please email or send to us a short introduction on the subject of the movie and the year it was taken.
Consent Agreement
I grant the Olde Wythe Neiborhood Association permission to use depictions and reproductions of my photograph and or text or portion thereof, including electronic formats, for non-commercial purposes.
This photograph, and or text is my creation, and I have the right to grant this permission and the consent of the individual(s) featured.
I also understand that I will not receive compensation in any form for the use of my likeness or others in the photo I submit.
I do hereby certify that I am over 18 years old.
Further, I release Olde Wythe Neighborhood Association from all claims of any kind arising from such production, use, distribution or broadcasting of the photograph and or text.
Once you send your story and or photos to the website this means you have given consent to display your work on the website and your name will appear as a contributor.
